Major engine issues and mechanical issues from new
By 5b304c4b | on Tuesday, January 24, 2023
I bought a brand new 2022 Toyota tundra, SR5, crew max 2wd. Within the first dozen miles or so the engine light came on. I took the truck into the dealership near my house, which was a different dealership than I bought the truck at. They told me that I needed to take the truck back where I bought it. So I immediately drove to that dealership in the suburbs. They told me that there was no master mechanic available and to bring it back. I was so frustrated after being told by the service department that they rushed these trucks out “too soon” and that they were having a lot of mechanical problems. I don’t remember the last time I felt so deflated. I drove the truck a few more weeks with the engine light on because in my view, I had already taken it to two Toyota dealerships, who were an available or unwilling to fix the issue. So I got a call one day from Toyota saying hey, there’s a warning light on your car can you bring it in. So I did and I did not see the truck again for about a month and a half. The truck had to have both of its twin, turbo chargers replaced. Obviously this was a huge inconvenience but the problems did not end there. Upon leaving the service department the engine light came on again. I just continue to drive it through frustration and the light eventually went out. They soon realized that the infotainment system was broken. During this time I continued to get notifications of other issues. Within a week the engine light was back on. At that point, I started the lemon process. I was forced to buy a new truck, of course at a higher interest-rate because I had just been approved for this truck and no longer qualified for the preferential rates of the top-tier. So I stopped driving the tundra because I did not want it damaged for purposes of doing the lemon law buyback. One day I did decide to drive it and when I went to return to the house, there was a loud high-pitched alarm that I could not get turned off. I believe it was related to the airbag system. Toyota came and picked up the truck at my house and took it to the dealership. I did not get any response back from them the entire time that it was there, which was about two weeks. And the buyback, luckily occurred while the truck was still in the service department. This was such a negative experience. I am haunted by it, and the inconvenience and sheer stress cannot be understated.… - 1.0
Catastrophic failure
By Carp | on Tuesday, January 10, 2023
2022 Tundra hybrid 2000 miles, 2 mos old. Catastrophic failure while driving. Engine steering and brakes all completely shut down, thankfully i made it safe. TOYOTA won't make good, nor will the dealer. I purchased Toyota for Quality and service, i got neither and im a life long Toyota guy, I've owned 4 and they could care less. They want to put in a make believe fix they they admitted they have no clue about and for me to risk my life and hope it work, I'm the test dummy. They're truly terrible people at a terrible company.… - 2.0
GAS HOG
By Niko | on Sunday, June 05, 2022
Terrible gas mileage.. Gas mileage on this window sticker lies. It's worse gas mileage than what it says. Also, this truck has been in the shop a few times for things acting up. The manufacturer I feel slapped these trucks together in a hurry just to get them out 2022. Overpriced truck, no difference from the older models.…
